Vande Bharata Janani

The song 'Vande Utkal Janani' was first sung at
Utkal Sammilani Conference at Balasore in
1912, the song had its spell-bound effect on
the audience and surprised many dignitaries in
the dias, including Utkalmani Pandit
Gopabandhu Das, who was presiding over the
Session. He was so much delighted that after
he heard the entire song, he inquired about its
writer....

....'Vande Utkal Janani's each line
and stanza is important for us. These lines are
so symmetrically arranged that under no
circumstances the song can be shortened.
Orissa's eminent persons including Kantakavi's
younger son and freedom fighter Sri Gour
Chandra Mahapatra is not at all in favour of
the shorter version of the song.

Orissa as A Victim

I though to listen oriya musin and found a nice post from provat.I added my 2 cent view which looks as below.....details can be found on respective site....
http://www.oriyamusic.com/OMForum/?topic=Popularity%20of%20Oriya%20Songs

Pravat, You rock man ..started a great topic.

Here is my 2 cent view...

"I have seen lots of oriya people showing thier entusiasm for old oriya songs and now days the modern oriya songs are also getting thier popularity with the introduction of the videos in the market."

-----------The OriyaMusic.com moderator posted a nice reply on the topic. I agree with him he is saying "it is all about the business and the public interest". I wish could link it but sorry could not find it.help please..!

"But still there is a sector of people, who hardly listen to the oriys music. I believe its a matter of attitude. If oriya people can find hindi and english songs interesting, why can't they find the oriya songs interesting. Though its a matter of taste, its difficult to accept."

--------Not listening…..people are listening that is why we are here. You and I are discussing ;) just kidding never mind …Well, if you’re comparing with Hindi or English definitely the audience is less but not least.

OK let me put in other way and ask you few question like

- How many oriya do not like to listen "Aaji Mun Peeini Aaji Mun Chhuini " or "Aalo Mora Kandhei Mote Delu Bhandei" or any other popular song ? probably very few

Yes this might not be a good idea to say that "Not listening" as jayant say it is " personal choice".

I agree, you may like hindi or you may like english or telugu it does not mean that you are not willing to listen Oriya song.It is all different different taste and should calcualte differently.

-If you have given a choice to listen Hindi or oriya song? You might be confuse to choose one,But if you given to listen between tamil and oriya, definitly you will choose oriya. That mean you still have choice(or likeness) to listen Oriya Song but you might not have good opportunity or resource or good song to listen.Once you have you will definitly listen and the same case for everybody (I belive :) )

“Though "Ranga Bati Ranga Bati" is a sambalpuri song, it has been accepted all over orissa. Similarly I want to see the popularity of the oriya songs all over orissa which can show our interet for our culture.”

-----------Yes, there is lots of song like that …”eaa nuni bihari pan kai mantar kola budha budhi bhendiya pila sab ke mantar kola” this is koraputia song but I heard many times in BBSR and talcher too. I like that J

“You are right to some extent. It is a personal choice. You can not force somebody to like something or not. So, we can't question a person, if he is not interested in Oriya song. But if you feel, that Oriya songs are having the potential to attract anybody by its beauty (as I am feeling that) then he will certainly atracted towards it oneday.

To achive that, some forum is required. And I feel, "Oriyamusic.com" is one of them. Along with that we also can contribute to attract them. How? Very simple, sing a song in front of them, or play your music system in their presence. Then the song itself will do the magic for us.

One of my non-Oriya friend, liked one of the Oriya song so much that he still remembers the tune. And this is the magic.”

---------------Yes , I agree with Jayanta ..no body has control of somebody’s like or dislike

“Today’s generation wants to show that they are trendy and is showing more interest in Hindi and English songs. Of course these songs are advertised well in one of the very popular medium of communication, the television…..”

“……about the popularity or Hindi or English songs specially HINDI. The media channel specially the trendy TV channels advertise so repeatedly and with so prominently that it sometime induce or make curious about the song with videos to the viewer or the listene…”

----------------Yes, this is true but it might not be good idea to compare this. See…if we compare between Hindi and Oriya definitely we will be the looser because they invest lost of money to make it. They count on Chords and we in lacks. In other way the question would be contradictory for me if somebody asks me “who is good for you or, The Mom or The Dad? Well for 5 minutes definitely I will quit before answering anything. For me the question itself is wrong because I can not compare between mom and dad as both has important role in my life. Yes, if something needs to improve we can work any one and improve it separately without arguing the other one.

OK …Let’s come to point So, It might not be a good idea to improve something by keeping in mind as MOM “or” DAD (E.g. HINDI or ORIYA) rather than MOM and DAD (HINDI and ORIYA) J …making sense ?I personally believe we should switch to The OR mentality to The AND mentality …simple J ..any other comments are appreciated

“Now a days I could see people produce music not with a intention of making music but for making monies overnight. Anybody with some handful money with no music knowledge or doesn't have any taste in music is producing music albums. This leads to the kind of albums that everybody finds now a days….”

-----------------------Yes you’re true. The moderator has answered this very nicely. It is all about the “public interest” after all no body is doing anything for charity. You can make 2/3 music for free or for your passion or for good shake not all. If you would have told to invest money in music or movies definitely you will make hot and controversy movies and make good money not a documentary. Yes, people make documentary who have of money or passion. Bottom line, the audience sitting at home in

USA

or non-Orissa group and the audience on street of Orissa is different. We can not blame either one. I am glad that at least producers are making music or movies instead of threatening to Oriya music industry. I recall the old probe nothing is better than something J ….One of my friend who is a film art director, in person he is a very nice but makes altogether a different controversy movies. This might be clear if somebody shows the numbers or statistic of Oriya public Interest. We might have notice that the trend is changing today’s kid teaching parent how to send a mail or operate VCR and we are moving towards Y-generation, it might be sometime hard to accept what they want… Better you keep ready…J

“Lastly at least I personally can not do anything but supporting the organization or people who do something for orissa. And I also know to support also we people lag behind. I know everybody can not do everything but why to reluctant to support good cause for orissa ???? I am a regular listener to Oriyamusic.com and I am very happy and wish all the best that at last somebody came forward to do a job like this in the field of oriya music.”

----------------You can do a lot even you could not imagine also. You can “raise a voice” or being a good Interdependence. “The Internet” is so power full tool which can be used as good purpose and which can be done by sitting at home also. I personally believe, if all of us “raise a voice” or express something good or bad (both are ok) definitely it will create good potential resource which might be a useful for our next trendy kid. I believe we have potential, we have resource, we have zeal, we have energy and all we need is good interdependence

All I am talking about there is some pro and cons about Orissa and every other state also. We can not judge the goodness of a person by thinking as a victim. We all are treating Orissa as “A VICTIM” and trying to extract the goodness. Let come out of this victim mentality and find out the Goodness. Automatically other will disappear slowly.

Folks, Wish you a happy charismas .I do not interned to offence any person or group of people. If anything I made do apologize for it. You have rights to sought on me here in this forum or our blog J

Jai Jagarnath !
